Festival Italia established itself as a massively popular fixture on the Brands Hatch calendar at the first attempt this afternoon, with a busy afternoon of Ferrari racing, Grand Prix demos, and themed Italian entertainment.
The headline Pirelli Ferrari Formula Classic races were both won by Richard Cook in his Ferrari 355 Challenge machine. The racing novice, who made a storming impression at the inaugural Festival Italia was impressive in each of the two races, including the opener which was preceded by a grid walk and opening ceremony.
With Italian flags waving in the wind, the first race was preceded by a rousing rendition of the Italian national anthem from opera singer David Burzotta, and a moving minute's silence in honour of Jack Sears, the first British Touring Car Champion, and a former Chairman of the Ferrari Owners' Club.
Other race highlights included a bombastic Italiano vs Inglese Allcomers feature in which Ferrari 355 runner Vance Kearney claimed the top spot of the podium, but only following a stiff challenge from the Mini, of all things, of Aaron Smith.
There were special demonstration runs throughout the day too, including outings for Ferrari, Dallara, and Coloni F1 cars, plus Lancia rally cars, whilst hundreds of Italian car and scooter owners took to the circuit for stunning afternoon parades.
The next major event at Brands Hatch will be the Lotus Festival on August Bank Holiday weekend (27-28 August). Click here for more information or to book tickets now.
